Tragant belongs to the most important group of medicinal herbs in Chinese medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, tragant (Astragalus membranaceous) is used to stimulate qi. This refers to the body’s own energy flow, whose free flow is considered to be a source of health in the Chinese view. It is therefore also known as Huang qi, which means “yellow energy”. The colour yellow is a reference to the yellow butterfly flowers of the astragalus membranaceous. What is particularly interesting is the immune-strengthening effect of the tragant which has been shown to even work against allergies.
